32 weeks B.C.
Your Mom doesn't feel so great right now.
She's trying to sleep, but you'll soon know that I'm quite the late owl, and I?m over here typing away as she battles nausea. It comes and goes, and don?t feel guilty or nothing, because she's in really good shape overall. I think she kinda likes all this attention she gets from those of us ?in the know? ? she's choosing every restaurant and activity we do, and I defer because, well, who doesn't defer to the pregnant lady?
So enough about your Mom. Let?s talk about you. Well, I hope you?re not offended, but there?s not so much to say about you right now. You?re about 6 weeks old, if we count you from the day of conception (not that you?ll ever want to picture that moment!), and at this point your big project is growing ?buds?, which in a couple of months will become chubby arms and legs. Congratulations, by the way, on your transformation from being a blatocyst to acquiring a full-on mesoderm?I know that was a big moment for you. It was for us.
What?s odd is that there?s not much evidence of you yet. The big tummy thing will be a good giveaway that you?re for real, but right now it?s just that your Mom?s a bit tired and the fact that she?s not eating sushi or cleaning the darn litter box that clue us in that you?re in progress. I stare at pictures of babies in the womb, trying to picture what you must be doing now?but then I get all bummed out ?cause it must be kinda boring in there?no TV or nuthin?. Well, I guess it?s a good thing that you don?t have a nervous system yet.
Oh, how I joke. Yeah, you?ll probably get awfully tired of that as you get older. I?ve pretty much already planned to use you as an excuse to get back to being a kid myself. I apologize in advance if I hog the Playstation (or whatever it is you?ll be playing) or wanna play just one more game of football on the lawn. Those kid years are some good years.
So, in a couple of weeks, we?ll get our first live shots of you on film (better get used to the camera!), and we?ll hopefully hear what your heart has to say. Be sure to smile, and wear something appropriate, will ya?
