our new secret weapon: the car seat. not just for crash protection, but an excellent vehicle for sleeping of all sorts, in the bed, on the kitchen table, even on the couch. we're in love again...with our baby and our baby's equipment.

there's good days, and there's tough days. there's the days where she sleeps like an angel, gliding from one feeding to the next, before settling into a calm, peaceful slumber. then there's the days where she looks at you - just observes - for hours on end, like a ticking time bomb, just waiting for you to try to put her down, or pay attention elsewhere, or simply do anything. then she gets a wonderously cute wrinkle on her forehead, following by a big open gum-filled mouth...then count to 1...2...3 as the surprisingly powerful scream indicates her current displeasure with the state of her world.
some of these not-so-happy times have come at, well, times when most of the Western world is asleep. like 9PM-4AM yesterday. or 9AM-4PM today. cho's on full-time duty, as i'm at work, and it's hard...those few precious minutes can be spent on the rest of your life or just trying to catch a few seconds of shut-eye...and then she's up again.
i'm hoping it's a growth spurt - some of our books say that weird things happen in week 3 as baby expands - and not the dreaded "c", which we're told can happen anywhere from 2-6 weeks and last 2-6 months. time will tell....
on the far more positive side, changes are afoot with lil' kaya...her wake time is increasing substantially, and her ability to look and, seemingly, actually "see" things is improving. she's gotten strong enough to bust out of the best chona swaddle, and her legs are starting to stretch to their full, apparently quite long, reach.Comments:Add a comment:

6 days old
They say it was 12:46PM, but I’m pretty sure you were born a bit earlier and they took their sweet time getting around to putting a date on it.
What a wonderfully strange last 6 days. Even that last sentence is a sign that things have changed, as I don’t think I’ve used the word ‘wonderful’ in a long, long time. But then again, there’s a lot of things I hadn’t done in a long time that re-emerged over these last few days…like crying, for example. I can’t remember the last time I cried – perhaps my Mom’s second divorce? – but, seeing my wife cut open, a tiny child pulled out, and then having both of them thrust into my immediate care, well, that’s more than I had ever expected.
