to be filed in the "must remember" category:
every day around 1PM zade goes down for his nap, and kaya gets 'quiet time'. we've managed to convince her for almost a year now that it's a good thing to spend an hour in her room playing by herself, and she actually loves the time...she dresses up in costume or pajamas, flips through books (of course, she can't read yet, but loves to look at the pix), and has all sorts of wild conversations with herself. (she also has an uncanny knack for having to 'go plop' during this time, which requires you to sit in her room wit the door to the bathroom half closed so he can have her 'privacy', but that's another story).
anyway, i'm inspired to write today because of the beautiful thing that happens once every couple of weeks or so...when she puts herself to nap!!!
i don't often use exclamation points, but a kid putting herself to nap at age 3 is pretty incredible, in my opinion. i try to picture the internal dialogue:
"whee! playing with these ballerinas is fun."
(yawn)
"hmm...what should i do next."
"geez, i'm tired. i guess i'm in my pajamas already...and that bed looks mighty good."
"ah, what the hell..."
(and she climbs into bed, puts her pillow on her face, and goes to sleep).
it's a beautiful thing.Comments:Add a comment:
