zade, you're giving your mommy and me a bit of a scare.

since i know i'll read this in a couple of months and all of these issues will be gone, let me record them for posterity...you've had 3 seizures in the last 4 months, you ain't talking despite being almost 20 months old, and your current temperature is 104.6 degrees. oy - you make us worry!

that said, you're in a great mood, you had a wonderful day with your Lola, you DO seem to be getting smarter and more vocal (albeit without words) about your thoughts and preferences.

    get better already, will ya?

you heard it here first...kaya is out of diapers. officially.

she basically begged us to stop sleeping in diapers starting about 2 months ago, but we always found a wet diaper in the morning, and figured she couldn't actually stay dry. then, 2 night ago, she begged cho to just let her sleep in underwear. the next morning, we went in to find that she had, in fact, peed in her bed, but she had grabbed a towel and put it down over the wet sport. pretty darn cute. the following 2 nights, she's been totally dry. wow. no more diapers. our little girl's getting old.

meanwhile, zadie is collecting bruises and show tunes, but still not talking. we've gotten a bit concerned, and he's heading in for an EEG and then maybe a speech therapist...not that there's anyting to worry about yet, but we're just being double-extra sure. he sure is cute, despite the fact that he has yet another fever. argh!

a short story, as recounted by Cyndi, our good friend (Cyndi, please forgive the plagarism):

Everyone on this email knows what happened to Abby's goldfish "Nellie". So tonight as I was putting Abby to bed she says out of the blue, "Ahhh, poor Nellie." I told her not to worry that Nellie was fine and she was in heaven. She was quiet for a moment and then said - very seriously, "Mommy, is heaven down the toilet?"

god, these weekends are exhausting, but somehow i find, as i lie in bed with chona watching desperate housewives, wonderfully fulfilled.

today, of course, being mother's day, we spent the morning with my family and the evening with cho's. kaya has reached that age where she really has become independent, leaving us upon arrival at Amama's to go hang with ben, max and anna. it's probably a bit frustrating for her, as she's 2 years younger than ben and max, but i think she just digs the idea of hanging out with the older boys, regardless of the activity.

zade, meanwhile, really, really, really needs to start talking, as it's getting frustrating for all involved, especially him, to have to point to everything. however, i do feel like he's back on the road towards cool new tricks...today i watched as he climbed up the ramp in our backyard, sat his cute little butt down, and slid down the slide all by himself. he also continues to work on his singing skills, humming along to "When I'm Sixty Four" in perfect pitch. he also just happens to be the cutest kid i've seen in a long, long time.

yesterday we went to Abby's birthday party at a local gymnasium...an amazing place that probably caters more to Olympians-in-training than 4 year old birthday parties. kaya did all sorts of cool bounces on the trampoline, jumped into the pit, did tumbles and generally acted like a 4-year-old girl, which may seem dull to you but is just fascinating to me...to see the independence and coordination that continues to refine itself. (not to be mentioned was her freak out about going into the gym by herself...our little girl has regressed a bit lately in the 'do things by ourself' department).

i ramble here, but what i'm trying to do is capture the joy of washing a car with a 4 year old, walking around the block with a 1.5 year old, recounting each day as little k and i lie in bed at night, reading "Where The Sidewalk Ends", sharing popcorn with z as we walk through a sunday farmer's market, etc.

oh shit - i forgot to mention hawaii!! we spent a week in hawaii at the end of april, and chona and i had a wonderful, somewhat relaxing vacation with the kids. after a mostly successful plane flight (no puking this time), we found ourselves overlooking the 'sand pool' (as kaya calls it), and kaya proceeded to spend the next 6 days submerged in it, usually with her new friend James. there's something about the warmth of the sun, the sound of the waves, or maybe it's the pina coladas that got our kids in a wonderful groove. they slept til 6am (which, given the 3 hour time difference, is a minor miracle), zade spent his days running around on the grass, cho got a massage or two and managed to beat me in tennis (not to be repeated!).

two moments that must be recorded in my few remaining neurons:

    1) a late afternoon on a grass slope, just a couple of yards back from the beach, with all of us lying around while z and k run amongst the trees, or walk on top of me, and k takes pix of the whole family, and cho and i lay on top of each other, and the sun just slowly sinks in the sky.

    2) dinnertime at the beach, where a lone tree sticks up through the sand. it starts to rain, just a slight sunshower, just as kaya and james decide to run to the sand. they dance around, holding hands, trying to catch the rain in their mouths, and we get to witness the whole thing.

ok, enough mushy stuff. suffice to say that it's all good.
